Welcome to Behind the Flame, a series created to showcase our incidentios.
Meet Sean Bennett, Commercial Account Executive here at incident.io.
It's a ton of fun. No day is the same, and it's a blast, honestly. The people we get to work with are just really cool.
My days are pretty varied. On a busy day, you're back to back in intro calls, demos, and POC check-ins. Other days are a bit quieter and you get time to work new accounts, go outbound with your BDR, and focus on pipeline. It's really up to you how you structure it, that variance is what makes this role fun.
I'm really proud to have been promoted into the Commercial Account Executive role after nine months at incident.io. One of our things is to move fast, and I've definitely been]living that. Nobody ever blocked or held me back. They just kind of let me run, and I'm really proud to have closed out Q1 over plan.
I'd done a couple of years as a BDR remotely, and I genuinely didn't realise how much I actually enjoy working out of an office and being around people all day. That was a really nice surprise.
This is the smallest company I've worked for, and that matters. Everyone knows everyone. Our CRO and managers are in the office, and everyone is willing to stop what they're doing and help you out. That means things get unstuck or move forward really fast, and I think we see that in deals too: we can move so much faster than other companies and get things across the line.
In our San Francisco office , we have a gong, so we have a lot of gong ringing in the office when we close deals, which is pretty cool. Sometimes people have wins and don't do anything, but when someone does ring the bell, everyone stops and gets excited.
Win Together, I think. There's so much about this role that's a team effort. I feel like I'm the person putting all the pieces together, but I'm not doing all the work. It really is about pulling on strings with Solutions Engineers, Legal, Finance. Everyone has your back. When I tell prospects I have to go to Legal, they look worried. And I'm like, no, I genuinely like working with Carl. It's a highlight of my day.
Flexible bank holidays. Most companies make you take bank holidays on the actual day. Here, you can work them and save the day for when you actually want it. You're not tied in, that sounds small, but it adds up.
It can be different things. Sometimes I check out completely. Other times I'll work an hour or two in the morning, maybe take a prospect call, and then just do whatever I want for the rest of the day. There are no rules. It's just a really nice three-day weekend once a month to recharge and have a bigger break.
The biggest thing is just: be yourself. In other roles I was a bit timid to do that. Big company, lots of politics, keep your head down. Coming here, I feel like I can let my personality through, whether that's on cold calls, prospect calls, or just in the office. And that's been pretty invaluable.
The wine train at RKO. You put a hundred people on a train and give them all wine for a day. It was pretty epic.
Don't be nervous, be excited. After the first week, the nerves are kind of gone and you realise you're really happy to be here. Starting a new job, you always wonder: did I make the right choice? Are the people going to be good? But we find exceptional people and genuinely good humans. Every single new hire since I joined has been that.
I joined the BDR team in San Francisco as one of the first people on it. That was exciting in itself: being able to shape the role and the process. I didn't know how much I'd get to mentor and onboard other people. That ended up being so much fun and such a rewarding experience.
Q: What advice would you give to candidates interviewing with us?
Be yourself, be open. It's really easy to tell when someone isn't being genuine. If you show up as your whole self and you're open and honest, that's your best shot.
