Incidents without channels

May 27, 2025

Overwhelmed by too many incident channels? While Slack and Microsoft Teams channels are essential spaces to collaborate and coordinate incident response, not every incident needs its own dedicated channel. Channels for minor issues, like a pipeline failure that can be easily retried, can create unnecessary clutter in your workspace.

That’s why we’ve introduced the ability to skip channel creation for incidents matching certain Incident Type and Severity criteria.

You can configure this setting per Incident Type, and add additional conditions such as Severity. For example, you might want to skip channel creation for Minor incidents, but still create them for Major and Critical ones.

If you realise your incident does need a channel after all, you can still create a channel directly from the dashboard or incident announcement message. This works at any stage of the incident lifecycle, from triage to post-incident.

What else we’ve shipped

New

  • You can acknowledge escalations straight from the push notification on your phone’s home screen
  • If you merge an alert into an incident, we'll cancel any pending escalations to reduce noise, but still let you know who it would have paged

Improvements

  • You can now edit schedule fields in the UI to export the new configuration to Terraform
  • Clicking the alert source on an alert in the mobile app will open the alert's source URL, if there is one

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a bug where accepting an alert attribute suggestion would result in two new attributes in the UI
  • We now correctly export the teams field when exporting a schedule to Terraform
  • Fixed a bug where some schedule shifts would not show in the schedule view in the mobile app
  • If you have a lot of teams, the team filter on the homepage would previously break, it now works as intended

So good, you’ll break things on purpose
